Sea Life - Yellow Tang

Here is the third animal for my sea life baby mobile: a little yellow tang!

This little tang is made in 3 parts: the body and the two fins. It is stitched in Knit Picks Mighty Stitch in Canary, with a 4mm hook. Gauge is not important. A larger hook and thicker yarn will result in a larger amigurumi.
My tang's body is 4 inches long, 2.5 inches tall, and just under 1 inch thick with stuffing.

Body:
Row 1:  6 sc in a magic ring.
Row 2:  sc in each st around. (6 sts)
Row 3:  [sc 2, 2 sc in next st] twice. (8 sts)
Row 4:  [sc 2, 2 sc in each of the next 2 sts] twice. (12 sts)
Row 5:  [sc 2, 2 sc in each of the next 4 sts] twice. (20 sts)
Row 6:  [sc 4, 2 sc in the next st, sc 2, 2 sc in the next st, sc 2] twice. (24 sts)
Row 7:  [sc 5, 2 sc in the next st, sc 2, 2 sc in the next st, sc 3] twice. (28 sts)
Rows 8-14:  sc in each st around. (28 sts)
Row 15:  sc 2, [sc 5, sc2tog 3 times, sc 3] twice. (22 sts)
Row 16:  [sc 4, sc2tog, sc, sc2tog, sc 2] twice. (18 sts)
Row 17:  [sc 3, sc2tog, sc, sc2tog, sc] twice. (14 sts)
Row 18:  [sc 2, sc2tog, sc, sc2tog] twice. (10 sts)
Rows 19-20:  sc in each st around. (10 sts)
Row 21:  [2 sc in next st, sc 2, 2 sc in each of next 2 sts] twice. (16 sts)
Stuff lightly, keeping the fish flat.
Row 22:  Fold tail in half, insert your hook in the next st and across to the stitch opposite it (3rd to last st in the previous row), skipping the two sts just made (Fig. 1): 2 sc in the first st, sc 4, 2 sc in next st, sl st in last st.
Row 23:  ch 6, (dtc, tc) in next st, (tc, dc) in next st, dc 4, (dc, tc) in next st, (tc, dtc) in next st, ch 6, sl st in side of skipped sts from previous row.
     Tie off.

Top Fin:
Join with a slip stitch at the top center where the head begins to be flat (about Row 8): Sl st 2, sc 3, (sc, hdc) in next st, 2 dc in next st, 2 tc in next st, dtc.
     Tie off.

Bottom Fin:
Row 1:  Join with a slip stitch at the bottom center 2 rows before it begins to decrease (about Row 11): Sl st, sc 2, (hdc, dc) in next st, (dc, tc) in next st, (tc, dtc) in next st.
Tie off. (Fig. 2) Weave ends in. (Fig. 3)

  1. Thank you so much for sharing this pattern! I was able to make a happy little fishy friend for my 1 1/2 year old while she was napping so she has a new friend to wake up to. :) Hope everything is going well for you!
