Finial Drop Christmas Ornament

This year, I have a little toddler running around for Christmas. That means I can't have my normal glass ornaments on the christmas tree.

So, instead, I have designed this series of crocheted christmas ornaments to decorate the bottom half of our tree. Since they're yarn and stuffing, it won't matter if he pulls them off the tree or tries to play with them. Win-win for all!

The christmas ornaments are inspired by classic glass christmas ornaments. I love the different shapes and variety of ornaments you could find in years past, instead of just the sort of boring spheres most of us have on our trees today.

For these ornaments, I am using a sparkly light fingering
weight yarn (I used Loops and Threads Payette yarn
in icicle, ruby red, and sterling silver) with a 3.25mm (D) hook.

I love the sparkly thread running through the yarn
and the occasional piece of sequins.
They give the ornaments just the right sparkly touch
that will look great when christmas lights reflect off of them!

This first finial christmas ornament measures about 4 inches long and just over 1 inch in diameter at its widest point.

Other Christmas Ornaments:

  - Finial Drop Ornament
  - Teardrop Ornament
  - Bell Ornament
  - Finial Ball Ornament
  - Spiral Drop Ornament

Each ornament is made in a continuous spiral.

Note: you will notice that about 2/3 of the sequins gets pushed to the inside (the "wrong" side) of the ornament as your stitch it. You can either coax it to the "right" side, or turn the ornament inside out when stuffing to get more sequins on the outside. I opted to coax some of the sequins to the "right" side for my ornaments.
